Weird Wisconsin: Hidden Gems, Roadside Oddities & Other Adventures
Summer is the perfect excuse to hit the road and discover some of the quirkiest, most unforgettable places Wisconsin has to offer. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or looking for a unique day trip, these destinations prove there's much more to Wisconsin than cheese (although there's plenty of that too!).
House on the Rock - Spring Green - Part museum, part architectural wonder, part "how is this even real?" House on the Rock is one of Wisconsin's most fascinating attractions. Wander through endless collections, the famous Infinity Room that stretches over the valley, elaborate musical machines, and rooms that seem to go on forever. Plan on spending several hours—you'll need them!
Dr. Evermor's Forevertron -North Freedom - Built from salvaged industrial machinery, this massive steampunk sculpture is one of the largest scrap-metal art installations in the world. It's strange, fascinating, and 100% Wisconsin.
The World's Largest Six-Pack - La Crosse - Standing over 54 feet tall, these giant brewery storage tanks are painted to resemble a six-pack of beer and have become one of Wisconsin's most iconic roadside attractions. Even if you're not a beer enthusiast, it's worth stopping for a photo!
Cave of the Mounds -Blue Mounds - Known as the "Jewel Box" of American caves, this National Natural Landmark features stunning underground formations created over millions of years. The cool cave temperature also makes it a perfect escape on a hot August afternoon.
Wisconsin Concrete Park -Phillips - This one-of-a-kind outdoor art park features over 200 whimsical concrete sculptures created by retired lumberjack Fred Smith. It's quirky, colorful, and completely free to visit.
Pink Elephant -DeForest - One of Wisconsin's most recognizable roadside landmarks, the giant pink elephant has become a favorite stop for travelers heading north. It's the perfect quick photo opportunity that's guaranteed to make everyone smile.
Sputnik Crash Site -Manitowoc - A piece of the Soviet Sputnik IV satellite literally fell out of space and landed in downtown Manitowoc in 1962. Today, you can stand on the exact crash site and see a replica of the spacecraft fragment.
Jurustic Park -Marshfield, - Step into a world filled with towering metal dinosaurs, dragons, robots, and creatures handcrafted from recycled scrap metal. It's unlike anywhere else in Wisconsin and fun for both kids and adults.
Chatty Belle – The World's Largest Talking Cow -Neillsville - Standing 16 feet tall and 20 feet long, Chatty Belle was originally built for the 1964 New York World's Fair before finding her forever home in Wisconsin. Drop a quarter in and she'll literally talk to you about Wisconsin dairy!
Mars Cheese Castle -Kenosha - Is it a castle? Is it a cheese shop? Yes. Complete with castle towers, souvenirs, fresh cheese curds, bakery treats, and enough cheese to satisfy every Wisconsinite.
The World's Largest Potato Masher -Plover - Only Wisconsin could celebrate potatoes with a giant potato masher.. It's located outside the Food + Farm Exploration Center and makes for one of the state's funniest photo stops.
